Q6.  A father said to his son, "I was as old as you are at the present at the time of your birth". If the father's age is 38 years now, the son's age five years back was ?
 

Answer :  14 Years


Let the son's present age be x years.
Then, (38 - x) = x
⇒ 2x = 38.
⇒ x = 19.

∴ Son's age 5 years back = (19 - 5) = 14 years.

Q7.  A is two years older than B who is twice as old as C. If the total of the ages of A, B and C be 27, then how old is B?
 

Answer :  10 Years


Let C's age be x years.
Then, B's age = 2x years and A's age = (2x + 2) years.
∴ (2x + 2) + 2x + x = 27
⇒ 5x = 25
⇒ x = 5.

∴ Hence, B's age = 2x = 10 years.

Q8.  The ratio between the present ages of P and Q is 6:7. If Q is 4 years old than P, what will be the ratio of the ages of P and Q after 4 years ?
 

Answer :  7 : 8


Let P age and Q age is 6x years and 7x years.
Then, 7x - 6x = 4 ⇔ x = 4

So, required ratio will be (6x+4) : (7x+4) ⇔ 28 : 32 ⇔ 7 : 8

Q9.  Six years ago Nikita was P times as old as Rahul was. If Nikita is now 17 years old, how old is Rahul now in terms of P ?
 

Answer :  (11/P) + 6


Let Rahul's age now be B and Nikita's age now is A.
⇒ (A - 6) = P(B - 6)
But A is 17
Therefore, 11 = P(B - 6)
⇒ 11/P = B-6
⇒ B = (11/P) + 6

Q10.  Father is aged three times more than his son Rohit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Rohit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Rohit's age?
 

Answer :  2


Let Rohit's present age be x years.
Then, father's present age = (x + 3x) years = 4x years.

⇒ 8x + 16 = 5x + 40
⇒ 3x = 24
⇒ x = 8.

Hence, required ratio = (4x + 16)/(x + 16) = 48/24 = 2.
